Commanders' Message
Many of you may already be aware that Governor Cooper has extended the current COVID-19 restrictions into March. Our full membership meeting in February is now canceled. We will however hold our executive committee meeting on Tuesday, February 9 at 7 pm to conduct the business of Post 52. Even though we are dealing with extraordinary circumstances your post continues to support the programs and mission of the American Legion. The Department of North Carolina will hold the Mid-Winter conference virtually on Zoom during the period of 19 to 26 February 2021. There will be committee and commission meetings and will culminate with the Department Executive Committee meeting on February 26, 2021. These meetings will provide information and a look forward to the rest of the 2021 year. Many of us have not yet received our COVID-19 vaccine shots however, as veterans we are eligible to receive this shot at the Durham VA Hospital. You may contact them at (919) 286-0411 and dial 0 to inquire about getting a shot. Looking ahead your executive committee has approved moving forward with our annual awards program. We normally have a banquet and invite the public. Due to the pandemic, we may have to present these awards at special ceremonies. These awards recognize the best in our community and our post. Two of our members have recently transferred to Post Everlasting, Phil Burrows, and Al Barbour. Please keep them and their families in your prayers during this season of grief. I would like to recognize and thank all who helped to make our Brunswick stew sale a great success. It was nice to see some new faces on the work crew. My wish is that you all stay safe and well and continue to check on one another to ensure we all stay safe and well. Should you need to contact me for any reason, you can reach me at 919-270-1479 or mcdonnelly51@gmail.com. For God & Country, Mike Donnelly, Commander Post 52 Chaplain's Corner
We can only imagine David’s loneliness as he found himself always on the move and challenged. King Saul was always in pursuit of David and Saul wanted David to know that his life was on the line at every turn of his life. King Saul prowled in the shadows ready to attack David at any moment. These attacks by king Saul placed a heavy burden on David, so much that he went into depression and despair. This resource in the Psalter represented what David knew that he had in God; namely, the strength of the LORD. Humbly, David relied on the LORD and David knew that God was his ultimate resource. David turned to God, whose ways are perfect, and his words are true, and his protection is sure. David knew that God was the rock on which he could confidently stand, and David knew God would save him from King Saul. If you are depressed and even to the point of despair, God’s ways are perfect, his words are true, and his protection is sure. God never fails, and never will. Trust in Him to deliver you from the enemy. Praying for each of you, those who are serving, who have served, and for the families represented in this season. The Lord bless you and keep you all, Thomas Reid Auxiliary Notes

The other news I want to give you is that District 6 is doing very well with our membership. In fact, District 6 is holding first place in Division II. We only need 35 more memberships to make District 6 a goal District. Happy Valentine’s Day Carolyn Donnelly, District 6 President |
