Commanders' Message

Commanders Photo It is hard to believe that October is here already! As the fall season begins, we have many blessings to be thankful for at Post 52. We have weathered the pandemic well and continue to conduct the American Legion's mission and business daily. Providing support to our veterans through buddy check calls and running events that include our local community. One result of this effort was Post 52 being awarded the Post Excellence Award for devotion to mutual helpfulness in support of the American Legion's programs and activities. The Post Excellence Award is a National Award given to posts demonstrating unselfish duty, commitment, and compassion towards their fellow men and women. Bravo Zulu members of Post 52 for a job well done.

As you all know, we have not gathered for a full membership meeting for many months; however, we are planning to hold a full membership meeting on Tuesday, October 27, 2020. This Meeting will take place as scheduled unless the Governor decides not to loosen restrictions. Should that occur, we will get the word out right away. Please plan to attend this Meeting if you are able. I would encourage all members who may be interested in serving as an officer of the Post to please let me know at the October meeting to answer your questions and ensure that the proper training is made available.

It is election season, so everyone, please exercise your right to vote. Whether you vote by mail or go to the polls, please plan your vote and make it count.

We recently conducted our Fish/Oyster Fry fundraiser, which was a huge success. I want to thank all the many volunteers for their efforts as cooks, servers, runners, and cleaners. A special thanks to members of Unit 52 Auxiliary for their help and the delicious bake sale items that they sold.

Post 52 will be making their donation to the North Carolina Legacy Scholarship Fund during ceremonies at Post 60 Henderson, NC, on October 2, 2020. We will deliver a check for Two Hundred Dollars for the Legacy Fund. This fund provides scholarships to the children of fallen and severely disabled veterans. Post 52 is proud to be a part of this outstanding program.

My wish is that you all stay safe and well and continue to check on one another to ensure we all stay safe and well.

Should you need to contact me for any reason, you can reach me at 919-270-1479 or mcdonnelly51@gmail.com.

Chaplian's Photo "Therefore, my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; my flesh also will dwell securely. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol; Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay. You will make known to me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; in Your right hand there are pleasures forever." — Psalm 16:9-11 (NASB)

In this passage, David expresses great joy, and his heart is filled with gladness. David's "glory" was a vivid reminder that he was created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27), and his hope was made complete in God. David explains why his flesh could rest in hope, found in God as his Rescuer and Provider. David knew God would save him from eternity in Sheol. This passage also references how God would not allow Jesus "Your Holy One" to be condemned to death, but to raise Him to life. David had a living Hope, and he found himself in joy because of this promised resurrection. God directs his children on the same path, where His presence fills them with joy! There is a Hope that goes beyond our imagination, trust in Him, and live. Praying for you, our service members who are serving, who have served, and for the families they represent, during this season of global change.

May the Lord bless you and keep you, Thomas Reid
