Commanders' MessageLegionnaires November is upon us! The Thanksgiving season is here, and we at Post 52 are thankful for the many blessings bestowed upon us. Due to our Post's incredible success, our Post and its members continue to get recognized with awards and opportunities. Post 52 recently received the National Post Excellence Award. Additionally, we received recognition for meeting and exceeding the National Commander's membership goal for the past year. Every member of our Post should be immensely proud of these accomplishments. We will conduct our Veteran's Day Program on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at 11 am and will serve lunch immediately following the ceremonies, with the reverse raffle to follow at 3 pm. If you have not gotten your tickets yet, do it soon. They are $50 each. I encourage all members to support this vital fund-raising effort. The Post is still looking for members to volunteer to become its next leaders. If you are interested in filling one of the positions, please let us know. We will help you receive proper training and information for the office you are seeking. All officer positions are open, and all members are eligible to fill one of them. Becoming an officer or committee member is one way to fulfill your devotion to mutual helpfulness. Just as we have had to adapt to the stressful circumstances surrounding us, so has the Department of North Carolina. We recently concluded the virtual meetings of all committees, commissions, and the Fall Conference. The business of the American Legion continues being conducted and carried out. If you have paid your 2021 dues already, thank you for doing so; if you have not yet done so, please submit them at your earliest opportunity. Membership is the lifeblood of our organization, and we need to meet our membership goals for this year; and your timely submissions are greatly appreciated. Since we do not hold a full membership meeting in December, I want to share some important news with everyone. In March, I will be attending National Legion College at National Headquarters in Indianapolis, IN. In June, at our annual convention, I will stand as a candidate for Department Commander for North Carolina for the year 2022-2023. This tremendous opportunity is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of the membership of post 52. Our Post's superb performance has played a crucial role in my stepping up and accepting this challenge. I want to thank each member of our Post for their support as I prepare for this endeavor. My wish is that you all stay safe and well and continue to check on one another to ensure we all stay safe and well. Should you need to contact me for any reason, you can reach me at 919-270-1479 or mcdonnelly51@gmail.com. For God & Country, Chaplain's Corner"Unless the LORD had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. When I said, "My foot is slipping," your unfailing love, LORD, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy." — Psalm 94:17-19 (NIV) If you are reading or listening to this, we know what it is like to need help. In relationships with others, who can provide support during times of need, we can build a healthy life together. As we focus on building each other up with other believers, we must remember to keep close to the divine helper's source of life; the Lord. As children of God, we are grateful recipients, and His word reminds us: He is "rich in mercy" (Ephesians 2:4 NIV). There is no one more merciful than the Lord. The psalmist declares that it is the Lord who held him up and provided safety in such a time of need. While this world, filled with problems, cause our anxieties to flare up, God comforts us in our fears. The apostle Peter suggests relief from our worries by "casting all your care upon Him for He cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7 NIV). During this season of change: I pray for all who have served; and who are currently serving; and the families they represent. May the Lord bless you and keep you, Thomas Reid Auxiliary Notes
Hello everyone, I hope everybody is doing well. We had our 100th birthday Zoom party at the Legion and celebrated with cake and ice cream. I want to thank Janet Tracy for being our secretary for a little over a year. We are looking for someone to step up and take this position. We will be having an Executive meeting on Monday, November 9, at 10 am. Everyone is welcome to attend the Executive meeting, but only the committee members can: make, second, or vote on motions. Due to COVID-19 constraints, we have canceled our sewing day—more information to come. On November 7, we will be handing out Poppies and bookmarks following the Veterans Day Program. We are currently updating our phone numbers, mailing addresses, and email addresses; please make sure I have the correct information for you. When scheduled, I will let you know the date and time for the November Unit meeting. Please welcome our new members to the Unit. Karen Nowell, President Auxiliary Unit 52 |
