Steve Ijames was inducted into the U. S. Army in June, 1969 and trained in field artillery at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Graduated from Artillery OCS and commissioned a Second Lieutenant in May 1970. Served duty at Fort Bragg, N. C. in 1970 and Camp Stanley, Korea in 1971 Honorably discharged from active duty as a First Lieutenant.
He joined the American Legion Post 52 in 1979 and has 35 years of continuous membership. During his time in the Legion he has served the post as Adjutant for the years 2003 to 2009. He was awarded the Department of North Carolina Adjutant of the Year in 2008. He has served on the Post Rifle Squad and the Executive Committee since 2001. He has also served on the Stand Up For America Committee for the Fourth of July celebration since 2007. Steve chaired the Bylaws Committee 2006-09 and was instrumental in getting the Post Bylaws approved.
Ijames was named Legionnaire of the Year in 2004.
