About Joe Dillehay:

Born at Vanderbilt Hospital on November 12, 1942, in Nashville, Tennessee. At age 22, I was drafted into the Army and sworn in on September 29, 1965. Had basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Advanced Individual Training (AIT) in mortars at Fort Pope, Louisiana and then Jump school at Fort Benning, Georgia. I arrived in Vietnam in April 1966 and wounded in right forehand and received the Purple Heart on May, 20, 1966.

I went to Germany from Vietnam in 1967 to an airborne unit in Mainz, Germany. In 1970, I returned to the states and was station at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, with the 82nd Airborne Division until 1974. From there I was transferred to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, with the 101st Airborne Division. On June 3rd 1976 I was medically discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6)

Now as a civilian, I retired at age 65 and joined the American Legion in 2007. My wife passed away in October 2011
