Commanders' Message

Commanders Photo As we end our election year and begin another, I want to thank all members who made this year a success. Every member and their support of the American Legion continues to make the American Legion the largest and most successful veteran's organization in the world. I ask that you work with the new leadership coming on board and support them as you have supported the past leadership.

We recognized Law Enforcement, Fire, and EMT of the year for their commitment to service to our community. Thank You to ALL our First Responders.

Our Fish / Oyster Fry will be Friday, April 15; if you can come out and help at any time, it would be greatly appreciated. Preparation will be Thursday, April 14, at 2:00 am for a couple of hours. Be sure to let your friends and neighbors know about this and invite them to come out and get some good food.

I would be out of character if I did not mention membership. We have almost met our department membership goal. Membership is the very life of our Post and The American Legion. Thank you all for your continued support. We have several members who have not renewed, and we are reaching out to them to check on them and see how they are doing. If you know a member, please reach out and see how they are doing.

Our new membership year is just around the corner. Please help the American Legion reduce waste by renewing your membership after receiving your first renewal notice in July. There are several ways you can renew: (1) By Mail, (2) Go online to MyLegion.org, (3) pay in person at our monthly meeting, or (4) Become a Paid Up For Life (PUFL) and forget it. Whichever option you choose, please consider renewing your membership.

In addition, we have several veterans who own their businesses. If you are a member of our Post and own your own business, call me at 919-339-8044 with the details, and we would be glad to promote your business.

Did You Know, 11 years ago, Post 52 was able to carry (8) Vietnam Veterans to Charlotte to the Vietnam Veterans Home Coming? We had breakfast and lunch together with those guys and had a great day of fellowship. Reach out to any Veteran you know and thank them for their service.

Spring is just around the corner, and we will continue upgrading and maintaining our building and grounds. When we reach out and ask for help, please consider helping your fellow legionnaires. Thanks to All who continue to make our Post a better organization.

We are not at 100% on membership. If you have not paid your 2022 dues, we need You

For God & Country, Harvey Satterwhite, Commander

Division 2 News

Division 2 President Each year, April is set aside as the military child appreciation month, officially known as Month of the Military Child, recognizing the important role military children play in the military community, their sacrifices, and the challenges they have to overcome. The military children deserve recognition and appreciation for their selfless service.

The official flower of the military child is the dandelion. Why this flower? Dandelions put down roots almost anywhere, and it's nearly impossible to destroy. Military children bloom everywhere the winds carry them. They are hardy and upright. Their roots are strong, cultivated deeply in the culture of the Army, planted swiftly and surely. They're ready to fly in the breezes that take them to new adventures, new lands, and new friends. Military children are well-rounded, culturally aware, tolerant, and extremely resilient. They have learned from an early age that home is where their hearts are and that a good friend can be found in every corner of the world. They learn that to survive means to adapt, that the door that closes one chapter of their life opens a new and exciting adventure full of new friends and new experiences.

April 15 is the day for communities to wear purple to show their support and thank military children for their strength and sacrifices.

There will be a Leadership Workshop on Saturday. April 30,2022 @ 11 a.m. It will be held at Greensboro Post 53, hosted by Unit 53 and District 10 President Susan Davis. Unit 53 will be a light lunch served. For more information, please call me at 919-270-1857.

A reminder for units to do your end-of-year reports, which are due by April 30, but some are due April 15.

For God and Country and In the Spirit of Service, not Self,
Carolyn Donnelly, Division II President
