Commanders' Message

Commanders Photo My fellow legionnaires as we now move into February, we are approaching a very important part of our year. It is time to consider what each of us can do to support Post 52 in the future. I have appointed a nominating committee to find a list of candidates for all the post officer positions. Ed Wilson has stepped up and will be the chairman of this committee. Ed will need help with this endeavor, so if you feel inclined, please let Ed or myself know. The nominations must present the candidates at our March monthly meeting. We are also looking for a volunteer who would train and eventually become the Finance Officer of the Post.

On February 14 and 15, our Department Mid-Winter conference will take place at the North Raleigh Hilton Hotel. National Vice-Commander David King will be the VIP guest at this conference. All Post 52 delegates are required to attend this conference. Any other members of our Post are strongly encouraged to attend so that you may experience how the American Legion conducts business. There will be many committee and commission meetings held in which you will be able to see your department in action and ask all the questions that you may have. There will be several awards given out at this event.

I want to thank the members of Post 52 for their incredible support in raising our membership to over 100%. As of this writing, we are only one member short of reaching the National Commanders Charge goal of 103%. If you are one of those members that have not yet renewed, please do so as soon as you can. As always, if you or a member you know needs our help of any kind, please bring it to the attention of your Post leadership so that we can resolve it.

For those who may not be aware, the Post recently purchased two new deep-frying machines to replace the old machine that we have been using for many years now. This purchase was made possible through the generosity of an anonymous donor who donated $1000.00 for this purpose.

The last line of the preamble to our constitution reads “to consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness,” so it is with this in mind that I ask you to continue to support your Post and the programs of the American Legion in any way that you can.

For God & Country, Mike Donnelly

Chaplian's Photo "The Lord, your God, is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love, he will no longer rebuke you but will rejoice over you with singing.” — Zephaniah 3:17

Were you aware that the LORD sings? God is with us, what a promise! He will never leave nor forsake us. God did not promise that life would be a bed of roses but promised to be with us through pain and suffering. After all, God made us in His image (Gen 1:27), and He made a way to save those who confess with their mouths and believe in their hearts so that they would be saved (Rom 10:9-10). Those who repent, turning from their sin, and trusting in the Lord to save them, will be saved. Which means there is a new identity, new beginning, and a new song in Christ. Psalm 40:3 says, “He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord andput their trust in him.” It is the song of Salvation that brings us back to the correct relationship with God. We sing because God sings! Salvation is a time to rejoice, to praise Him for all that He has done for us. Wherever we may be in life, singing brings joy to us, and others, and also hides the Word of God within our hearts; that my friends, is a reason to sing!

May the Lord bless you and keep you, Thomas Reid
