Commanders' Message

Commanders Photo Why is Veterans Day celebrated on November 11th? World War I ended with the signing of an armistice at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. This day, originally celebrated as Armistice day until June 1, 1954, when Congress changed it to Veterans Day. Veterans Day honors all of those who have served the country in war and peace to thank them for their sacrifices. We will celebrate Veterans Day at Post 52 on Saturday, November 9th, as well as our 100th Anniversary as a post! I would encourage all legionnaires to come out to the post and help us celebrate.

My thanks go out to all those legionnaires that came out to support the Brunswick Stew sale and all of those who participated in the Frankenfest community celebration. We would not have been successful without your support.

During a special meeting of the Post 52 Executive Committee held on October 21, 2018, our long-time Post Adjutant Ed Wilson tendered his resignation, citing that 6+ years was long enough and that he wanted to turn the job over to someone else. The committee unanimously voted to accept the resignation. I want to thank Ed for his dedicated service as our Adjutant and wish him all the best. As a result of this resignation, I have appointed Bruce Lobach as the Adjutant for Post 52.

The Restroom renovation project is complete, and they look great. Please take the time to check out the finished product on your next visit to the post.

If you have not renewed your membership for 2020, please consider doing that now as this will help cut down on paperwork and postage required for National renewal notices and will help the post reach its membership goals.

We completed a successful Fall Conference held on October 18 & 19 at the North Raleigh Hilton. The Special Guest was Mr. Paul Dillard, Leading Candidate for National Commander, from the Department of Texas. I strongly urge all members of Post 52 to attend a conference or convention to experience how The American Legion conducts business.

Vice-Commander's Report

Vice Commanders Photo The month of October has moved along with our Brunswick stew sale fundraiser successful with all quarts sold. If you didn't buy a quart, you missed it. It was really good and a great way to start the fall season. Frankenfest was a lot of fun, and the food was excellent, as always. Thanks to all who came out to prepare food for these events, and as always, we welcomed the presence of the Auxiliary.

November will be a busy month with the Veterans Day program at the post and Franklin County Veterans Day program at the

Louisburg Armory. Check the newsletter’s schedule of events for dates and times.

We are always looking to recruit new members, and for the veterans that previously did not qualify to join the American Legion, The Legion act now allows 6 million veterans to access American legion programs that were not previously eligible. So, let those fellow veterans know that they are now eligible to join. We meet every last Tuesday of the month. Come and enjoy a great meal and fellowship with your fellow veterans. See you there.
