Commanders' Message

Commanders Photo As we approach the month of July and all the celebrations on the fourth, we should also reflect on the purpose behind them. The birthday of this nation happened as a result of our Declaration of Independence and all those who fought for this monumental cause. As we mark this historic occasion, we remember what a great nation we live in and the freedoms that we enjoy.

July will be a very busy time at our Post with many activities to take part in. We will have the Stand up for America event at the Fields of Franklinton Elementary School on June 29, 2019. Legion College will be on July 12 & 13, 2019 at the Village Inn in Clements, NC and I encourage every legionnaire to attend as it is a great opportunity to learn about how the American Legion Department of North Carolina conducts their business.

On July 20, 2019, we will chicken, and pork barbecue fundraiser at the post and volunteers are needed to help with food preparations and serving to the public, so please plan to come out and support this event.

We will hold our executive board meeting on July 16, 2019, and our regular membership meeting on Tuesday, July 30, 2019.

Our new Department Commander is Mr. James Moore from Post 94 in Snow Hill; District 5 Commander is Mr. Ron Bullock from Post 90 in Oxford and District 5 Vice-Commander is Mr. Jeremy Hetrick from Post 60 in Henderson.

I am proud to announce that I have been asked and have accepted the opportunity to serve the Department of North Carolina as the Chairman of the Americanism Commission in addition to my duties as your post commander.

I want to wish all of you a happy and safe Fourth of July Holiday and ask you to remember our entire homebound members during this time.

For God & Country, Mike Donnelly

Vice-Commander's Report

Vice Commanders Photo July is here! Post Officers for 2019-2020 have taken Office, and a Membership committee has been formed and is working hard. In July, you will receive notice from National Headquarters to renew your membership for the 2020 year. Please consider paying your dues upon receipt of getting that notice. And Don’t forget — Each One Recruit One.

Legion College will be this month on Friday and Saturday July 12 & 13 at the Village Inn at Clemmons, NC.

Don’t forget Family Night at the monthly Post meeting on July 30th at 7 pm. Bring your Family and A Veteran.

I would like to leave you with something to think about the next time you say the Pledge of Allegiance

The Pledge of Allegiance is our pledge to our country. You hear it a lot. What does it mean?

“I pledge allegiance” – I promise to be true “to the flag”- to the sign of our country “of the United States of America” – each state that has joined to make our country

“and to the Republic” – a republic is a country where the people choose others to make laws for them. The government is for the people.

“for which it stands,” – the flag means the country

“One Nation” – a single country

“Under God” – the people believe in a supreme being

“indivisible” – the country cannot be split into parts

“with liberty and justice” – with freedom and fairness

“for all” – for each person in the country … you and me

The pledge says you are promising to be true to the USA.
